ST. DAVID'S, PA-Thanks for publishing "Tony Campolo Blasts War on Terrorism"
[Summer 2002 COG PF Newsletter]. We need to encourage each other. Let's keep
on working for peace-even as they beat the war drums.
-TONY CAMPOLO
HONG KONG, CHINA-Our church is a young church, made up almost entirely of single youth. But in recent months five engaged couples exchanged wedding vows!
Another huge change is the development and quick growth of a Sunday school, mostly upper grammar school kids, and now a large number of newlyweds. In a church that averages 60 persons this marks a tremendous breakthrough.
We are in a strategic spot. The busiest border in the world is NOT the US-Mexican border, but the Hong Kong-China border where over 100 million people cross each year!
Please continue to pray for us and our church which is growing and maturing. Two new workers are preparing for Christian ministry. We praise God for what He is doing here in Hong Kong. -PATRICK AND JAMIE NACHTIGALL
HUNTSVILLE, AL-My daughter, Tamara Boggs, brought me a copy of the COG PF newsletter. I was so thrilled to find out about it. My father, Oral Clemens, was a Church of God pastor, and I was raised as a pacifist. When the young men in the congregation were called to go to Korea, my father talked to them about Conscientious Objector status, and several of them took that option.
It bothers me that there is so little talk about peace and the pacifist position in the church today. In fact, some consider that "doves" are unpatriotic. The whole idea of America being a Christian nation, and therefore favored by God is an abomination to me. I want to sing "God bless the world! All the children of the world!"
I was thrilled to see that a course in Peace and Conflict Transformation is being offered at the university. And I want to make a contribution to the AU Peacemaking Fund in memory of my parents, Oral and Marie Clemens, who taught me to be a peacemaker. I belong to several peace groups and participate as much as I can.
I have looked for a Peace Fellowship email address or a web site. When they are available, I would like to receive that information. I would also like to subscribe to the newsletter. -BETTY M. CLEMENS
PONCA CITY, OK-After reading "A Tour of the West Bank," the excellent article by Ken Sehested, I want to share my concern about our nation's favoring Israel as the chosen people of God at this time in history. The New Testament clearly teaches that the church is the chosen people of God-whosoever will drink of the Water of Life offered by Jesus Christ, Jew and Gentile.
We need a vehicle to communicate to the President, the Security Advisor, the Secretary of State, and others, regarding Israel (Jews) in the light of our position on the Millennium. We must correct the fallacy that the US must favor and fortity Israel or be doomed (or at least not be blessed) by God. Could this be communicated by the Peace Fellowship and by Ron Duncan, the church's General Director? -REV. LYNDEN HOWARD
ARTHUR, ND-During these days when nations are rattling their sabers, it is so encouraging to hear a bell tolling for peace as the Newsletter is doing! Our membership fee is enclosed. -NINA AND RAY MARTIN

BISMARCK, ND-We truly have been impressed by the many people doing such important
work for peace. It makes us proud to be AU graduates.

PORTLAND, OR-We appreciate the excellent education that is provided through the Peace Fellowship. And we use Newsletter articles to lead adult class discussion at Mt. Scott Church of God.
We are excited that Dale will retire soon (on his 55th birthday) from several years of work with mass transit in Portland. I (Monica) have been semi-retired for about two years after serving on the staff at Mt. Scott for 16 years. I chair the Credentials and Advisory Board in Oregon and SW Washington, and am being trained to serve on the Wellness Teams using Peacemaker Ministries material. (For readers interested in applying biblical principles to peacemaking, look at <hispeace.org> the website of Peacemaker Ministries.) Seek peace and pursue it!
I (Monica) was in Anderson recently, meeting with the Implementation Team of the Visioning Conference. The Church of God has exciting days ahead! There is a good spirit, desiring to move forward and broaden our influence.
Would it be possible for PF to have a link or bit of info on the CHOG website? Many people have never heard of us, which is unfortunate. -DALE AND MONICA MONROE
SPRINGFIELD, OH-Thank you for the important Peace Education work you are doing.
We're enclosing our membership fee and enjoy reading the COG PF Newsletter.

LAKE WALES, FL-My prayer is that of St. Francis, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace!" I want to do my part among those I know to wage peace between persons and also among nations. Jesus loves all of us "little weak ones"-Jew, Arab, Indian, Spanish, Hindu, Muslim. I enjoy hearing about peace friends. -W. MALCOLM RIGEL
ELKHART, IN-We enjoy reading the Newsletter, and pray for God's people to understand
that He wants us to wage peace, not war. We are blessed to be pastoring in Elkhart,
and God is moving in the hearts and lives of our people. May He continue to
multiply the ministry of the Peace Fellowship. Enclosed are our membership fee
and a gift to the AU Peacemaking Fund in honor of our children Jeff and Jennifer
(Mabry) Howie, and Sarah Mabry.

ANDERSON, IN-In his moving Nobel acceptance speech President Jimmy Carter said, "War may sometimes be a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn to live together in peace by killing each other's children. The bond of our common humanity is stronger than the divisiveness of our fears and prejudices. God gives us the capacity for choice. We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose to work together for peace. We can make these changes-and we must."
We are encouraged by President Carter's words of truth, in spite of President Bush's threat to use nuclear weapons. I don't believe that anyone can stand in the middle on this issue. Our faith goes beyond threats and places hope in the promise of Emmanuel, God with us! "Depart from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it" (Psalm 34:14). -ED FREER-FRYE
CHICAGO, IL-Our family celebrates several special events during this, our 13th
year of urban ministry here. Zachary, our 22-year-old son, returned in December
from a life-changing mission trip to Honduras with eight other college students.
In February our 15-year-old son Luke became an Eagle Scout.
In May Rosanne will receive her Ph.D. in Special Education from the University
of Illinois. In June Zachary will graduate from Kalamazoo College. In August
Rosanne and I will mark 25 years of marriage. A few days later Zachary will
marry Eileen Hart, of Clarkston, MI.
And also in August our daughter Lydia Rose will celebrate her 4th birthday.
Rosanne took time off of her doctoral studies in order to be a mother for the
third time. So Rosanne (in her words) "plodded along" toward the degree
while being a wife, mother, and major income provider for the family for the
past 16 years.
-FRANK WARD
ANDERSON, IN-We are in the U.S. due to the civil unrest in Ivory Coast. The situation could degenerate into all-out civil war, exacerbated by outside powers and foreign mercenaries. Please pray for a return to peace for this traditionally peaceful country, so that the Kingdom of God may be extended in this part of the world where it is so desperately needed. -LARRY SELLERS
LAKE WALES, FL-We appreciate the Newsletter and networking with other concerned
Christians. Peacemaking is imperative as we try to live out the gospel!
